Restored by Odessa: Potemkin Stairs and new parks open to visitors
After more than two years of reconstruction, the Potemkin Stairs and two parks in the lower part of Primorsky Boulevard — Istanbul and Greek ones — have become accessible again to the residents and guests of the city.
Today, on the day of the opening, the green areas were officially presented to the public.
According to the correspondent, both parks, which have now come to life after extensive reconstruction, are crowded with visitors enjoying the tranquility and shade of the trees. The workers of «Gorzelenrest» have made significant efforts to restore them: the lawns are covered with bright flowers, decorative plants are neatly trimmed and pleasing to the eye.
Both fountains located in the parks — the Grotto in Istanbul Park and the «Beginning» in the Greek one, created by the author Mikhail Reva, provide coolness and refreshment. The children’s and sports areas are open and fully functioning.
It is worth noting that, despite the lengthy reconstruction, the communal services did not leave the green area unattended, ensuring its proper maintenance.
However, the Potemkin Stairs, noted as the postcard of Odessa, did not open completely. The walk to Primorska Street remains impossible due to the installed barbed wire.
Unfortunately, the only drawback of today’s celebration is the state of the stairs. The plaster continues to peel off the sides of the structure, spoiling the overall look of this national monument.
