Students in Ukraine to Study Basics of National Security and Defense
Starting from the 10th grade, students in Ukraine will study the basics of national security and defense. During the lessons, they will be informed about the principles of management and planning, as well as acquainted with the various types of weapons and military equipment.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, stating that the main focus will be on practical activities.
The Ministry emphasizes that the updated curriculum of the subject «Defense of Ukraine» corresponds to the modern challenges and realities that the country faces. The teaching program will be the same for all students, regardless of gender, and will cover innovative technologies, information security, and skills in pre-medical aid.
«Our goal is to prepare young people for the challenges of the rapidly changing modern world. We are working on developing critical thinking, adaptability, and students’ responsiveness. The updated program ‘Defense of Ukraine’ aims to form crucial life skills — from providing first aid to understanding modern technologies,» emphasized Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi.
Significant attention will be paid to practical skills during lessons, such as terrain orientation, engineering fortification, and marksmanship training. Special emphasis will be placed on developing students’ knowledge of military technologies, information security, and pre-medical aid.
The innovative approach to education includes conducting lessons once a month, so that students have the opportunity to delve deeper into the material and effectively practice the acquired practical skills. Specially equipped centers will provide access to modern technical equipment, such as computer simulators for controlling drones, interactive laser shooting simulators, and tools for learning the rules of pre-medical aid.
Over 100 trainers have already undergone special training to pass on knowledge to teachers from all regions of Ukraine, allowing for the effective implementation of the new program and the application of modern pedagogical approaches.
