Successful Landing of «Odysseus» on the Moon
After six days of intensive work and several unexpected situations, engineers finally assembled the landing components of the spacecraft «Odysseus» on the surface of the Moon. Some details and prospects of the future mission were revealed at a press conference on Wednesday.
Challenges Faced During Landing
Steve Altemus, the CEO of Intuitive Machines, announced that unexpected difficulties arose during the landing. The navigation system of «Odysseus» lost contact with the rangefinders and was not receiving data from the altimeters in real time, leading to insufficient accuracy during the descent of the landing module.
Damage and Standby Mode
Upon touching the surface of the Moon, the spacecraft received a strong impact, causing damage. However, thanks to the team’s perseverance and NASA’s support, valuable data was collected from the spacecraft, which is currently in standby mode awaiting activation when the sunlight returns.
Continued Mission
The mission continues, and engineers are focused on restoring the spacecraft’s functionality and achieving scientific goals. They are confident in the capabilities of «Odysseus» and are prepared to overcome all challenges on the path to re-establishing communication with it.
