Ukraine introduces general mobilization and martial law
Ukraine has recently introduced a general mobilization and martial law due to the Russian invasion. Men aged 18 to 60 who have received draft notices are subject to mandatory conscription. The law on mobilization was passed in Ukraine to address the current situation.
Are part-time students at risk of mobilization?
In a conversation with the portal b2bconsult, lawyer Andriy Mezhiritsky clarified that the law «On mobilization training and mobilization» applies to individuals registered in military records and reservists. If a person has a draft card, they cannot be mobilized without their consent, regardless of age.
Individuals without a draft card or listed as draftees in the military registry may be mobilized if they’re not deemed unfit for military service in peacetime. However, those listed in the military registry as draftees and holding a draft card cannot be called up for military service until they reach 25 years old.
State Border Guard Service spokesman Andriy Demchenko mentioned that the QR code received by Ukrainian citizens during the update of military registration data can be used at the border to verify their status.
