Corruption Scheme Uncovered in Kyiv Road Repair
The press service of the Kyiv National Police reported on Friday, March 1, that officials of the municipal corporation «Kyivavtodor» and leaders of a private subcontracting company established a scheme for embezzling money allocated from the local budget for road repairs in Kyiv.
According to the statement, during the reconstruction of the Degtaryovskiy overpass, some building materials were purchased at prices that exceeded market prices, potentially causing damage amounting to hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.
Police investigators have entered the data into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years.
On September 30, the Degtaryovskiy bridge in Kyiv collapsed during repair works, prompting a criminal case and searches at eight addresses by law enforcement officers.
