In Kyiv, dog handlers demonstrated how they prepare service dogs to work in de-occupied territories.
The animals are trained to detect explosive objects and search for weapons, the Kiev police reported.
According to the deputy chief of the Kyiv Canine Center, Vitaliy Lytvyn, three new dogs have been introduced to the police.
Among them are a German Shepherd and two Belgian Malinois.
The animals are trained daily to determine their abilities: to search for explosives, drugs, apprehend criminals, or search for missing persons.
«In particular, now, in the conditions of war, the main focus is on searching for explosives and weapons,» said Vitaliy Lytvyn.
Training lasts from three to six months and includes a series of tests to determine the dog’s predisposition to a particular specialization.
After that, the trained dogs set off on duty with the police.
