German Eurofighter jets intercepted Russian aircraft near Latvia for the first time

The country’s Air Force reported on Friday, March 1. The German aircraft took off from the Latvian military base in Lielvarde to intercept Russian aircraft near Latvia’s territorial waters.

Latvian Minister of Defense, Andris Spruds, reacted to the incident on Twitter.

«NATO airspace patrol is fully operational, and allies can respond immediately. Today, German Eurofighter jets took off for the first time from the airbase to intercept two Russian military aircraft near Latvia’s territorial waters,» he wrote.
