Consul General of Poland in Lviv apologized to Ukrainians for events at the border

The Consul General of Poland in Lviv, Eliza Zvonkevich, Issues Apology to Ukrainians

The Consul General of Poland in Lviv, Eliza Zvonkevich, has issued an apology to the Ukrainians for the actions of the Poles at the border.

The diplomat’s reaction appeared on her Facebook page. Zvonkevich emphasized that she can no longer pretend as if nothing is happening.

«I can no longer keep silent. Out of love for my country. I cannot pretend not to see these shameful actions of Poland at the Polish-Ukrainian border. I apologize to you, dear Ukrainians,» she said.

Zvonkevich acknowledged that she used to believe that only Russians could behave so shamefully, recalling the events of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, in particular the refusal of Soviet troops to allow the landing of allied aircraft on their controlled territory.

The Consul General clarified that her statement pertains not to the demands of the protesters, but to the form of protest.

«A true Pole will never stab his neighbors in the back, who are fighting for freedom. The issue is not in the demands, but in the form of protest. Shame and disgrace. I apologize to Ukraine, which is currently at war,» Zvonkevich wrote.
