Ukrainian Institute for the Future analyst Andriy Prokip has stated that the increase in electricity tariffs was inevitable due to serious losses in the energy sector caused by the ongoing war.
«Military actions have led to serious losses in the energy sector, complicating the situation with electricity supply for the population. This has led to the necessity of tariff hikes,» he said.
Prokip explained that the losses account for approximately half of winter electricity consumption, and also emphasized that the situation may worsen further due to planned repairs at nuclear power plants.
«We should prepare for the possibility that electric light may only be available for half of the day in households. This situation is very serious,» Prokip noted.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk had mentioned that the tariff increase was necessary to restore the damage done to the state energy generation by the Russians.
