The Austrian Parliament has passed a law giving Ukrainian migrants unrestricted access to the labor market. This was reported by visitukraine.today.
The law on employment in Austria provides for the introduction of the «red-white-red card plus» (Rot-Weiß-Rot-Karte plus or RWR+).
This initiative allows Ukrainians to obtain a residence and work permit in Austria without restrictions regarding a specific company or region.
To obtain RWR+, Ukrainian refugees must meet a number of conditions, including having been employed in Austria for at least the last two years, having full insurance, and providing for themselves financially.
Starting from October 1, 2024, Ukrainian refugees staying in Austria under temporary protection will be able to transition to the RWR+ card. This status will allow them to count the time spent in the country towards obtaining permanent residence and even citizenship.
The RWR+ card is issued for a period of three years and includes requirements for integration and language proficiency demonstration. Relatives will also have the opportunity to benefit from this initiative. It is expected that over 7,000 Ukrainian migrants in Austria will be granted the right to RWR+.
