Safety Recommendations to Minimize Contact with Snakes

Rescuers advise following simple safety rules to minimize contact with snakes:

  • Wear appropriate clothing to protect from snake bites, such as high boots and thick, long pants tucked into the boots.
  • Check resting places like grass, rocks, and logs by shuffling or tapping with a stick to scare away snakes.
  • Avoid touching unverified objects with your hands, as snakes often hide in various places.
  • If you see a snake, do not make sudden movements. Wait for it to crawl away as it usually does not see stationary objects.
