Police Officer Suspected of Illegal Enrichment
Law enforcement officials in Dnipro have announced suspicion to a police officer for illegal enrichment in the amount of over 14 million hryvnias. According to RBC-Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigations reported that the officer spent the money on construction and property purchases that exceeded his legitimate income.
The officer was caught extorting money from builders working on his mother-in-law’s property, demanding compensation for a fire that occurred after the repairs. He registered assets like land, a house, and a Porsche car under his relatives’ names, clearly contradicting his declared income and lifestyle.
Charged with illegal enrichment and providing false information in his declaration, the officer could face up to 10 years in prison. Corruption scandals in Ukraine continue to be a problem, with recent cases involving a minister’s illegal land acquisition and embezzlement of state funds by organized groups.
