Germany considers purchasing four Patriot systems for 1.2 billion euros

According to Bloomberg, Germany is considering the purchase of an additional four Patriot air defense systems, estimated at 1.2 billion euros.

The plans are currently in the early stages, and officials are assessing how to finance the expanded order, which could increase the total cost to 2.6 billion euros.

A spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defense declined to comment on specific procurement projects but stated the government’s intention to better equip the armed forces.

In March of this year, Germany announced the purchase of four Patriots, with the first expected to be delivered by the end of next year, bringing the total number of Patriot systems to eight.

Germany has transferred one Patriot system to Ukraine. The country has also offered Poland to deploy Patriot systems for NATO airspace protection following the incident of shelling in Poland by Russia, which resulted in the deaths of two people.
