Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov Plans for Heating Season Preparation
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov has revealed the city’s plans for preparing for the upcoming heating season, taking into account the serious damage caused to TEC-5 as a result of shelling. In an interview with LIGA.net, Terekhov discussed the city’s strategy for ensuring heat supply to its residents despite the challenges posed by the destruction of key infrastructure.
Previous Winter Heat Supply
During the previous winter, Kharkiv partially relied on modular boiler rooms in residential areas to provide heat to around 40,000 subscribers. The presence of these alternative boiler rooms, powered by generators, allowed the city to maintain heat supply even during blackouts.
Reducing Dependence on Large Heat and Power Plants
Mayor Terekhov emphasized the importance of distributing the thermal network load to reduce reliance on large heat and power plants. This strategy aims to better manage potential issues in wartime conditions and lessen the burden on main thermal power plants.
TEC Nationalization and Cooperation
While advocating for the nationalization of TEC in the past, Terekhov now faces the reality of extensive destruction at TEC-5, leaving only ruins behind. The mayor underscored the need for cooperation with TEC management to navigate challenges during the heating season.
Russian Shelling Impact
On March 22, Russian forces targeted Kharkiv’s energy infrastructure, causing widespread damage with 22 S-300 and Iskander missiles. The city experienced a blackout, leading to the premature end of the heating season. TEC-5 management confirmed the station’s destruction, highlighting the lengthy process of rebuilding ahead.
